Had my birthday dinner in advance last night. With my dearest mum and Kwan-Ah-Kor. ;p

Mummy suggested 老北京 at Novena Square.

I’ve been to N.S a zillion times but it’s the first time I dined at that restaurant.

Things may turn out unexpectedly cool. And awesome. (;

It was supposed to be a NR0620 gathering on Tuesday with picnics, cycling and whatnots at East Coast Park. Heard that the response wasn’t good, therefore it was cancelled.

But we still hung out and made it Mr. Tianshun’s belated 20th (surprise) celebration. (:

I don’t give a hoot about the iPhone.

I’ve waited months for this baby!

And am still waiting. ;p

SONY ERICSSON XPERIA X1!

See why I’m X1-cited now?!

:D

Crossing my fingers and hoping there’ll be attractive deals during Xmas!

On a happier-er note, our graduation trip is CONFIRMED!

Destination is HONG KONG. (;

Man, I truly need to save up, seriously.

For the sake of X1 & the grad trip. (:

I’ll be constantly giving myself this excuse why I’m going on this ‘extravagant’ trip with the ladies.

Attention to myself: Reward and enjoy myself before I officially become a Staff Nurse.

HEADLINES: the reveal of PRCP postings!

(more…)

Been a week since the commencement of the Gerontology posting at AMK-THK Hospital. And this is the FINAL attachment before PRCP!! *one thousand and one reluctance*

First week only and we had to do up a case study. Then from next week onwards we’re required to take up cases and be the in-charge of selected patient(s).

I gotta brush up my pharmaco, period! Ms. Lee’s (the C.I, clinical instructor) extremely particular about the facts of medications we serve. *Stressness*

No surprise, I’m sure.

But I’ve got the too-lazy/too-many shows to watch-to-blog syndrome again.

The past one week holiday was all about waking up, go to mummy’s to help out, bathe, and hours & hours of

  • Grey’s Anat.
  • Desperate Housewives
  • ANTM
  • Heroes
  • Project Runway

The OT posting has come to an end, sad to say.

After the entire week, I think I’ve found my ‘passion’ in nursing! Hahah. What a way to put it, but I THINK I WANNA BE A SCRUB NURSE!

I was kinda puzzled cos quite a few of the mates didn’t like it in the OT. But I enjoyed my posting there.

The temperature suits my liking, but can be freezing cold tho. Heh.

Anyhow, I saw a number of cool surgeries!

Includes split skin grafts (SSG) – where a thin layer of the pt’s skin is being ‘shaved’ to be used to cover a gapping wound, hemiglossectomy & radical neck dissection – where it involves the removal of half of pt’s tongue. For the latter, it reminded me of Face Off, cos the pt’s skin from the neck area to chin was being flapped open luh and total parathyroidectomy – where all 4 of the parathyroid were removed. Etc etc.

(It’s so weird to hold on to a tongue that’s detached from a person!)

Oh, I managed to scrub in for two cases! (:

First was a minor op, perianal abscess. But cos the surgeon was sitting so near to my trolley, I didn’t really pass him any instruments, he helped himself to them. /:

The second surgery was a Plastics one, wound debridement of upper arm with SSG from thigh.

SSG is so cool, I tell you. (a little gross also luh)

The skin graft was taken from the thigh (may vary) of the pt using a blade, which functions like a shaver, except the product is a thin layer of the skin, not hair. Then this layer is being meshed to create holes on it so the skin can have ‘ventilation’ and also to expand it slightly. So after meshing it, it’s being placed on the wound and then sutured/stapled.

Having said these, it’s not easy to be a scrub nurse. Some really awesome scrub nurses I saw, they could anticipate which instrument the surgeon needs next and all that different types of surgeries and sets of equipments with confusing different names. They have to be really quick and efficient.

A&E posting next week! Zomg. Heard someone did a resus. Phwoahness.

CODE BLUE!

Today’s the first day at work after like 4 weeks of break.

As much as I’m reluctant to give up my holidays, it’s still awesome cos

it’s the Operating Theatre posting!!!

Not exaggerating,  but our attire for the entire day today was scrubs, cap, mask and crocs.

Fugly crocs, I call it. And we had to get a brand new pair for this week! Has to be ‘clean’, you see.

Wanted to get a fun color, so the cousins and I scanned the entire of Toa Payoh (where I think imitation crocs are most available), but to no avail. One of the vendors even commented, ‘It’s no longer in trend lo! They’re not producing anymore stock.’

Can you believe it?! Even the imitation finds it ‘Eww’‘.

Thanks to Xiuling, I managed to get a pair. (;

Anyhow, today was alright cos I’m not assigned to an OR yet. Was a bank floater and also assigned to the recovery room. Met some really friendly staff! (:

TOMORROWWW!

From tmw onwards till Fri, I’ll be in OR. And the OR tmw is a Hand Surgery one. Means I’ll have to do the self-mutilating surgical scrubbing technique! Moisturiser please!

Oh, I hope there won’t be bone fragments and ligaments flying across the OR as what Ken describes orthopedics surgeries. ;P

Pls make it a smooth sailing posting!
